NewsroomLimits on property tax reviews OK'd by Senate A bill allowing communities to limit court review of property tax assessments won approval by the state Senate on a 32-1 vote Tuesday. It passed the Assembly by a large majority last month and now awaits action by Gov. Jim Doyle. The bill would allow a community to adopt an ordinance strengthening procedures before local boards of review and, in exchange, limiting the ability of a taxpayer or community to appeal that ruling in circuit court. Larger communities such as Milwaukee are expected to adopt the new system, which applies to residential and commercial properties. Manufacturing property will continue to be assessed by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. |
